Julia Child's Crepes stacked with layers of...
Two cooks & ladies I love: Julia Child & SmittenKitchen. They inspired me to go a little crazy on making crepes. I’ve been making crepes every day because I am so… determined to master it. It bothers me that I cannot make a crepe in a perfect circle that is golden brown at the right places. I leave studio early because I want to get a head start on my next batch of...

Another goodbye dinner, that ends with Banana's...
As I was whisking the eggs into the flour to make crepes, the man fixing the fridge became the fourth stranger who asked me if I was running a restaurant at the Gamble House…& suggested me to. I laughed. That would be lovely. I give him the “I can’t, I have studio” response that we’ve all used: “I can’t go to your party because I have...

Citrus Oatmeal with Cranberries & nuts (vegan)
Nothing starts the day greater than a heart-healthy bowl of oatmeal. This recipe  prepares a much more nutritious bowl of oatmeal than your instant Quaker oats (with tons of refined sugars & preservatives) & only takes a few minutes to prepare! Oatmeal just provides so many health benefits… it provides fiber, stops your cravings (& is low calorie/fat), stabilizes your blood...

Open-Faced Smoked Salmon Sandwich
This is probably one of the most simplest, yet sophisticated foods you can make for breakfast, lunch, or some big snack in between finals. It’s piled over with smoked salmon slices (a powerfood packed with protein, vitamins A & B, & omega 3’s to give your brain that boost) & garnished with dill (an herb that fights bacteria…very helpful for those building models in...

Starting the summer right, with my first baking...
During my finals, my breaks typically involved some kind of baking or cooking, whether it was to feed myself, to clean out my pantry/fridge, or to feed my friends, or a combination of all of these…. I would always find an excuse to bake and/or cook. My friend asked me why I wouldn’t just take a break to watch a tv episode/movie, & I told him it’s simply because you...

The Bake Sale
I picked up my cute little 14 & 18 year old cousins (who I haven’t seen for 13 YEARS…) from school & brought them back to my house to spend the whole afternoon baking. Both are going to Taiwan for their first missions trip this summer & both need to raise about 2k. I was so happy. & I thought: well, why not do a bake sale? Why not catch up & bake together? I...

The Chef Charette Cookbook
One of my best friends, a graphic design major at CSULB, was assigned to design & create a cookbook for her studio class. This is the original, & only copy that she has printed & hand-bound with scotch tape. She asked me if I wanted to collaborate with her. I was honored. While I cooked, baked, & drew, she photographed & designed the layout. Although we had to cram...

Pear & Blue Cheese Salad
My lovely architecture friends & old studiomates invited me over for our traditional potluck BBQ.  As much as I love baking, I care for everyone’s health (esp the junk food archies)…& I figured I should probably cut back on that & create something more refreshing & healthy (for the sake of my future kids & my studiomates not becoming overweight) Salads are a...

Updated Espresso Brownie Bites Recipe!
I added some more adjustments to the recipe after I made it a third time. (third time’s a charm ;) ) The brownies are now more flavorful with added ground, hazelnut espresso (along with more caffeine) Hope you enjoy them!

dannisaurus-rex asked: Hiya ^__^ I noticed in your brownie bites that you have eggs listed twice, as well as salt, flour, and vanilla extract. I was just wondering what the correct recipe was, because I really want to make them :o) Thank you!

Espresso Brownie Bites
Are you sleep deprived? Are you pulling an allnighter? Are you hungry & does that cup of coffee not fulfill your appetite? Are you a a girl who’s craving chocolate but that colossal sized brownie at the cafe just won’t do because it’s “too many calories?” Are you willing to take a bite-sized brownie because it’s “fewer calories?” Are you craving a brownie but can’t afford to let the chocolatey...

Italian Wedding Soup
So back from EFCI’s summer retreat, Shannon and I walked into the cafeteria and were craving some soup. We got the last bowls of Italian Wedding Soup. As we both took our first spoonfuls, our eyes lit up and we looked at each other in awe, and at the same moment, thought, and said, “I’m going to make this.” So finally after all these months, just after I turned in my...

Charette week
not only has the holiday season begun, but it’s charette week. My final project (of this year) is due this Friday. This is probably gonna be one of the best & most memorable weeks ever. I love all of my studiomates; and I’m soooo excited to cook (hopefully nutritious & high protein food) for my studiomates. And I hope that through this experience, I will not do it out of pride,...

Thanksgiving with my mom and Julia Child and GOC
For a long time, I dreaded this year’s Thanksgiving. I missed my opportunity to spend Thanksgiving at home with my dad last year. And, this year, my dad is gone, my brother  is doing who knows what (who knows where), my dog has been stolen, and even my crazy asian aunt and calm uncle left to Seattle to be with my cousin. It was only me and my crazy asian mom….just the two of us. And...

Mini Thanksgiving before Thanksgiving!
So my roommate, Janis and I decided to cook a mini Thanksgiving dinner together before we left for our homes. and we cordially invited Audrey and Matt to join us. Since we were only preparing for 4, we decided to cut out the traditional ginormous Turkey and instead, go for Cornish Hens; one cornish hen (or one mini Turkey for each person!)…. Don’t know what a cornish game hen...

Hey everyone :) sorry I haven’t been posting; I’ve been taking a break off of Tumblr. I plan that my next post will be after my Midreview and around the time of Thanksgiving. In the mean time, I’ll still be cooking and working on dishes to post in the future. Feel free to contact or email me if you’d like to meet up to get together and cook. <3, Lilly

Apple Pie Cookies
So what do we think about when fall comes around the corner? Cinnamon, apples, spices, nutmeg, sugar….  Well, Deb, from one of my favorite blogs: smittenkitchen made something very brilliant. She incorporated both amazing things into one and made an apple pie cookie. It’s perfect. Everyone loves apple pie. But since it’s so hard to bring apple pie to everyone, she made it in a...

Apple Cranberry Cookies after a bad deskcrit
I had another bad deskcrit with my studio instructor. I feel like 75% of my deskcrits is him basically asking things like “why haven’t you done this? or this? or that?” and ending it with something like, “you’re screwed, but you can do it.” (and a very unconvincing smiles to make up for) This time he criticized me for placing my kitchens at the corner, facing...

Mini Green Tea Almond Gelato Sandwiches
Ok, so even after I had only gotten 2 hours of sleep for Project 2A, I decided to go to Enoch’s birthday potluck/dinner. Not bringing anything bugged me ALL day long. so I decided to just bake a batch of green tea cookies to bring. I barely had all the ingredients, except - I didn’t have enough green tea powder, so instead, I substituted a bit with loose leaf Matcha green tea. The...

Green Tea Cookies
Okay, so this is more of a tease. I’m not going to include the recipe, or directions to make these cookies. The only other person who knows my recipe is my roommate, Janis Yee, and (possibly now) my lovely sister, Helen Wang. Many of you do know, I have a thing for green tea and I have a special place in my heart for my green tea cookies. What’s the story behind these? well, I fell...

Mini Lavender Cupcakes with Lemon Buttercream...
What does Lilly do the day before she has to move into her apartment and start her new year of studio? She bakes mini Lavender Cupcakes and spreads it with Lemon Buttercream Frosting. The reason why I choose lavender is because my cousin, Elaine, gave me some dried lavender leaves from her trip to France. And heck, I’ve been craving for something delicate and soothing. It has so many...

Nutella Pistachio Icebox cookies
For my last official summer night before my first day of school, I invited Yulee over to my apartment. Yulee’s my first discipler and she just graduated from USC with a B.Arch. Right now, she is currently job-searching. Chances are that she’s probably going to leave soon…. so before things got too busy, we came up with a list of things to do. One: to bake together. I try to...

Creamy Fettuccine w/ Leek, Corn, & Arugula
I invited Crystal over for lunch before things got too crazy. It was leek season, and as I looked through Real Simple Magazine’s recipes, I found a recipe with leek. However, it seemed kind of bland and the original cheese it calls for is a little rare, so I adjusted it. This was my first time cutting a leek. Just when I finished cutting the leek, Crystal knocked on my door. With her help...

Architect food (Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies)
I didn’t feel like cooking the ordinary classic chocolate chip cookies, so we decided to try adding coffee… because anything coffee flavored = delicious. And plus, our Architecture studiomates could always use more sugar and caffeine, right?  And it was scrumptious. Even more scrumptious with a cold glass of milk. :) Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients 2 Tbsp...
